last night, we all went to the basketball game. we won! in overtime! but, tom left before the three of us to come home and go to bed. when we got home, tate greeted us at the door, as usual. i went to bed (it was after 10:30 when we got home and the game was here!) and ashton got in the shower and john was on the computer.
fast forward to this morning at 8am. tom wakes up to go to the bathroom. he hears a whining sound. he goes out to the living room and here is tate-out.on.the.deck. what? how did that happen? luckily, he was wearing the warm, fur lined coat/vest that my mom and dad had given him for christmas. when tom found him, he was huddled up next to the deck door, his fur full of ice and snow, and the coat also was drenched with ice/snow.
so, we have to ask. how did this happen? the kids swear that they didn't let him out last night and forget about him. (although that did happen earlier this week in way subzero temps for 5 mins) tom is not sure if he was in the house when he got up to go to work at 2. the best that we can figure is that he was outside for at the least 3 hours. at the longest-9 hours.
we are so fortunate that he didn't spot a deer and chase it, or just wander off in the dark. especially since his name tag had fallen off, and i hadn't put it back on or gotten a new one yet. and the other thing is, is that we always let him out the front in the winter, so he would've had to go all around the house, in the dark and cold to get to the deck. thank god he did. and thank god the temperatures were actually decent last night, unlike the last few days.
we are sure of one thing, though. tate's anxiety issues are probably worse now than they were on friday morning....

I'll teach you my beagle howl, then you'll never be stuck outside again!
